Building an ADU is not a small thing for a homeowner. They’ve spent months getting permits, navigating setback rules, arguing with the HOA, and finally handing the keys to a crew they hope they can trust. That trust lands on you. At Sutton ADU Builders, the people who do this work show up in a clean uniform, carry a photo ID badge, and already have their name and photo in the homeowner’s inbox before they knock. We’re looking for people who think that’s the right way to run a job – not a burden. If that describes you, keep reading.
Who We’re Looking For
- ADU Construction Technician: Someone who can read a set of plans, coordinate with a subcontractor, and still notice the detail a homeowner will point at for the next twenty years.
- Prefab and Modular Installer: A builder who understands how factory-built units like Abodu, Dvele, Boxabl, or Plant Prefab go together on a real site and what can go sideways at the foundation stage.
- Apprentice Builder: A person who learns by doing, takes correction without attitude, and wants a clear path from carrying materials to running a job.
- Room and Home Addition Framer or Finisher: Someone who can tie a new addition into an existing structure cleanly – matching lines, materials, and details so the addition looks like it was always there.
- Dispatcher / Project Coordinator: A detail person who can hold multiple schedules in their head, talk to a homeowner about a delay without turning it into a crisis, and keep the field team moving.
- Customer Service Representative: Someone who picks up the phone, knows the project well enough to answer a real question, and understands that a homeowner spending this much money deserves a live person – not a voicemail tree.
What We Offer
A Real Path, Not Just a Job
We don’t hire apprentices and leave them there. The work we do – detached ADUs, home additions, prefab installs – has enough range that a person who pays attention can move from assisting on a foundation pour to leading a full detached unit build. We’ll tell you where that path goes before you start, not after you’ve been here two years wondering.
Work You Can Stand Behind
Every project at Sutton runs under the Threshold Standard: a written price delivered before anything begins, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise that covers the finished work for a full year. That means you’re not cutting corners under pressure, and you’re not handing a homeowner something you’d be embarrassed to put your name on. The jobs are set up to be done right, which makes it a lot easier to do them right.
Local Crew, National Backing
You’ll work with a local crew – people from the same area, dealing with the same permit offices and inspectors. But behind that crew is the Threshold Group, which means consistent standards, real systems, and a company that was doing this before 2006 became a reference point. You get the stability of a national brand without losing the feel of a crew that actually knows its territory.
Steady Work in a Growing Trade
Demand for ADUs is not a trend. Zoning changes across the country have opened up millions of lots that couldn’t legally build a second unit five years ago. Homeowners need more space and they’re choosing to build it on the lot they already own. That creates consistent work for people who know how to build it well.
No Experience? Read This.

If you’ve spent time in carpentry, roofing, general contracting, concrete work, or even a skilled trade that isn’t construction, you probably have more that transfers than you think. We teach the ADU-specific parts: how prefab units connect to site-built foundations, how James Hardie cladding systems go on, how to read a permit set for a detached structure. What we can’t teach is showing up on time, working carefully, and treating a homeowner’s property like it matters. Those you already have or you don’t.
The first months are structured. You’ll work alongside an experienced lead on real jobs – not practice projects. You’ll learn how Sutton runs a site, how we communicate with homeowners, and what the Threshold Standard looks like in practice. By the time you’re working independently, you’ll have seen enough real builds to know what you’re doing and why.
How to Apply
Call us at (472) 248-8213 or use the contact form below. Let us know where you’re based, what kind of work you’ve done, and when you could start. Hiring happens locally – your application goes to the Sutton location nearest you, and you’ll hear back from a real person on that team. No automated screening, no mystery about the next step.
